Everything you need to know

  • What are portable greenhouses used for?

Most people use greenhouses to grow their own vegetables. However, you can also use them to harden seedlings until they’re ready to plant outside in beds and pots. Because they have a clear cover, they provide plants with sunlight while protecting them from the wind and pests. Plus, they create the warmth and humidity plants require for stronger, healthier growth. Shelves make them great for growing plants in pots, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and chillies.
  • What type of portable greenhouse do I need?

It depends on the size of your garden. If your garden has limited space, choose a smaller greenhouse, such as a 3 tier or 4 tier greenhouse. Or, if you have a bit more space, choose a walk-in greenhouse, which is bigger with extra shelves to grow a larger quantity of veg. Grow tunnels are perfect if you're growing fruit and vegetables directly in the ground in raised beds or borders. For example, potatoes, cabbages, carrots, pumpkins, broccoli, and strawberries.
  • Where should I put my portable greenhouse?

For the best wind protection, place your greenhouse flush against a wall or fence. Also, choose a spot that receives plenty of sunlight to promote healthier growth. If you’re placing your greenhouse on a lawn, use U-shaped pegs to secure it to the ground (our walk-in greenhouse comes with pegs, so you won’t need to buy any). However, if you’re placing your greenhouse on a patio or decking, you’ll need to anchor it to the ground. This will ensure its fully wind proof.
  • How do I anchor my portable greenhouse to solid ground?

First, place your greenhouse flush against a wall or fence. Next, screw an eyebolt to the wall or fence either side of the greenhouse, making sure they're higher than the top of the greenhouse door. Once screwed in, wrap galvanised wire tightly around the front of the greenhouse, just above the door. Then, tie the wire to the eyebolts to secure the greenhouse in place. Finally, remove the bottom shelf from your greenhouse and replace it with a paving slab to keep it firmly weighted.
  • Can I use a portable greenhouse during the winter?

We wouldn’t advise it. Although a greenhouse keeps plants insulated from the cold, it isn't warm enough to protect them from frost. So, it's best to dismantle your greenhouse and store it away during winter. Having said that, fleece covers are available for our 3 tier and 4 tier greenhouses. By keeping plants insulated to -8˚C, they allow you to grow hardier vegetables all through the winter. Also, cold frames are a great alternative to greenhouses if you’re growing winter crops.

Whether you're a novice gardener or green-fingered pro, growing your own is easy with our portable greenhouses. As well as creating the conditions plants crave for strong, healthy growth, they're perfect for protecting them from the wind, rain, and pests. Plus, they come in a range of sizes and styles to suit your outdoor space. For a small garden, opt for one of our mini greenhouses. Or, if space allows, choose one of our large greenhouses which have extra shelves to produce a bumper crop. We also have grow tunnels to protect your veggie patch, cold frames to extend the growing season, and replacement greenhouse covers for sale. So, what are you waiting for?
